A thousand years ago imam al- ghazali was born in Tus. When he was a child he and his brother Ahmad were learning with a wise man in Tus. Imam al-ghazali then went to another school in Nishapur.
One day when Imam Al-Ghazali was travelling with his caravan he got attacked by bandits. The bandit took everything in the caravan including his notebook. Imam al-Ghazali said, “You can take everything else except my notebook, please it has the knowledge i gathered” the bandit replied, “What kind of knowledge is this when i can just take it easily from you?” and then the bandit scattered all the Papers from the notebook. After this incident, Imam Al-Ghazali memorized all the knowledge he had collected.
Imam AL-Ghazali shared his knowledge and was smarter and better than everyone else! But he became Puffed up/Proud of himself. He then realized there was something wrong within him. He shouldn’t be like that, so he tried to leave the university he taught at but it was hard to leave for him so he didn’t. But then one day when Imam A-Ghazali tried to speak, no word came out/ that way it was easier for him to leave since he couldn’t teach.
He then went out to change himself and find peace. Imam Al-Ghazali arrived at Damascus and worked as a sweeper. One day there was an argument in Damascus and Imam Al-Ghazali gave out the answer. He left Damascus before people would know his identity. He went to Haj and after he finished his privilege he went home thinking he was a better man and he had changed himself. He went home to his wife and daughters.
When he was about to leave this world, he prepared himself for death.
